EVIL, KILLER MONSTERS LAME & GLITTERY?

First surviving written reference in an 10th century French poem. LYCANTHROPY – Greek for ‘wolf-man-to’ Items that kill vampires are useless against werewolves!

 Lycanthropy is a psychosis in which the patient has delusions of being a wild animal (wolf).  Historically, Lycanthropy has been around since the early Christian Era (Book of Daniel), and the Roman empire, and then spreading out from Europe

 Greek Mythology refers to King Lycaon of Arcadia when Zeus turned him into a raging wolf. -Greek Text: Lukos (wolf) Anthropos (man)  Spread in Europe during the Middle Ages because a baby was born with body hair and a strange birthmark coining the term “werewolf”.

 Modern Psychologists describe term as a Mental Illness in which the man/woman believe they are a wolf or some animal.  Many cases have been found with patients “transforming” into a wolf or beast-like animal.  These individuals are dealing with some level of paranoia, extreme stress, primitive expression of aggressive and sexual urges in the from of bestiality, and acute anxiety.

 The excessive hair growth on the historical cases of Werewolves can be explained by:  Porphyria cutanea tarda or Hypertrichosis Porphyria cutanea tardaHypertrichosis  Hypertrichosis disorder can cause excessive hair growth  Porphyria Cutanea Tarda can cause bizarre lesions on the body

 Could be normal human then change at night.  Myth says “ only on a full moons night” will they change.  Can weapons hurt them? Silver bullets some say.  REALITY- most people with Lycanthropy will suffer from some form of underlying schizophrenic condition with at least 5 other signs considered to have it.

 These 5 signs include -  Schizophrenia  Organic brain syndrome with psychosis  Psychotic Depressive Reaction  Antisocial or Avoidant Personality Disorder  Manic Depression

 Rare phenomenon, but it EXISTS in some parts of the world.  Are the shows in MTV (Teen Wolf) or Twilight series true?  Not in a “physical transformation” change –  This is a mental disorder, or a genetic disease

 Earliest recorded ‘vampire’ folklore is about blood  Sucking demons that were almost always female  The current Western idea of vampires comes mostly from gothic romantic literature: ‘The Vampyre (Polidori), Dracula (Bram Stoker), in the early-mid 1800’s

 Pointy teeth  Drink Blood  Hate Sunlight  Hate Garlic  No Reflection  Sexy… Apparently…

 Drink Blood  In theory, drinking blood might alleviate the symptoms of porphyria…  Except that porphyrins don’t cross the intestinal mucosa… Meaning there wouldn’t be any absorption of nutrients  Pointy Teeth  Well, not pointy, per-se… but possibly red! (Congenital Erythropoietic)

 Hate Sunlight  Skin damage from sunlight can be a symptom!  (Porphyria cutanea tarda)  Uroporphorynogen = Light sensitive!!!  Hate Garlic  Perhaps! Diallyl Sulfone (from Garlic) increases porphyrin production! = More blisters and stomach ulcers

 No Reflection  No apparent correlation to porphyria. Pale skin is a symptom (not always associated with Vampires)  Sexy  Not likely. One of the side effects of porphyria is MANIA which could manifest as hyper-sexuality… but that’s pushing it

 Vampirism is NOT REAL… but could manifest itself as symptoms of porphyria “vampire disease”  However… many people WISH they were vampires and join underground “cults” and “clubs” dedicated to looking like mythical vamps, and even participating in blood drinking rituals.  CLICK HERE CLICK HERE
