2 Let’s go back Vampires are one of the few mythological creatures that have existed in many major civilizations that we have documentation of. They, and what it is said they can do, are supposedly older than Christianity. They are mostly assumed to be immortal, undead, or demon souls after children. 2

3 What can they do? Vampires “powers” are mostly standard, but there is some difference between cultures. Most all vampires are said to have superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes. They also can use a form of mind control called a glamour. To attract what is most commonly children After that, some are said to be able to fly, shape shift, and even possess children to attract more victims for them. 3

4 Is that all? No. Vampires also commonly have heightened senses. Sight, hearing, touch, taste, and the most heightened of all is the sense of smell. Vampires are said to drink the blood of mortals because blood is the force that sustains our life. And therefore sustains theirs. 4

5 Are they Indestructible?
Far from it. Supposedly vampires can be killed by sunlight, a stake through the heart (in some cultures, the stake is to hold them down while you cut off their head), burning, a cross, Holy water, boiling water, a silver bullet blessed by a priest, ect. Most any of these things can supposedly kill, impair, or harm vampires. 5

6 The classical image of the vampire
They feed by two ways in our culture today. Some by the blood of the victim, others feed off each victims emotions, and psychic/mental energy. 6

7 Are they real? No. So far all medical and scientific reports say that it is simply a blood fetish that makes people believe or desire to be vampires. On the other hand, many people believe that there are, in fact vampires. And not just that they exist, a few claim to be vampires themselves. 7

8 Extremists Some people, go to extraordinary lengths to make others believe. There are realistic video’s with real looking people claiming, and “proving” to be vampires. Even major movies out of the legend. 8

9 What else makes you think that?
There are a few diseases nicknamed “the vampire diseases”. They are rare genetic disorders that show traits, and markings of a vampire. They are usually fatal, and untreatable even today. Most victims of these diseases can be monitored, and given help to control it. But those suffering in the dark ages, would have been seen as vampires and been immediately destroyed. 9

10 Catalepsy Is a disease that makes you go into a kind of coma. Your body in a sense stops responding to what you tell it to do. If your eye’s are open, you can see, hear, smell, you’d be fully conscious, but not be able move or respond at all. This explains how they “rose from the dead”. A Cataleptic attack could last from up to a week, to a few days. To a few minutes. 10

11 Porphyria It is a disease that causes an interruption in the body’s production of heme. Heme is one of the main things necessary to make red blood cells (the cells that carry oxygen through the body). The symptoms of this could be excessive hair growth, sensitivity to sunlight, In some extreme cases, enzymes can build up on the teeth and gums of the afflicted giving them a reddish tint (which would look as if the person had been drinking blood). 11

12 Anemia This is a disease in which a person does not have enough red blood cells in their body. Symptoms of anemia include weakness or faintness, loss of appetite, and dizziness Some other, and rarer, anemic symptoms can include pale skin and bleeding gums 12
