2 What is vampire???? A vampire is a mythical creature which sustains itself by drinking the blood of living animals. Most vampire myths center around the reanimation of human corpses, with the corpse preying on other humans for the blood it needs. Vampire mythology is ancient, with most cultures having some version of the vampire in their folklore, perhaps reflecting a universal desire to explore the ideas of death and dying. In the modern era, the vampire has become almost a pop culture figure, thanks largely to Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, Dracula, which features an aristocratic, mesmerizing vampire.

3 History Vampires can be found in the fable of Persia, China, Aztec, India, Malaysia, Polynesia, etc. It is believed that the myth of vampires originated in Europe and India. Greek and Roman mythology have stories of Goddesses, who disguised as human to drink blood of living beings. This must have triggered the vampire myth, eventually spreading to other countries and cultures of the world. Superstitious stories of human beings also contributed to the irrational belief of people in vampires. One of them was Vlad Tepes Dracula, the Prince of Wallachia, who killed people for his own pleasure and was known as an autocrat. He was later characterized as a bloodthirsty vampire by Bram Stoker in his novel 'Dracula'. . Stoker's Dracula became the most successful vampire novel, and Dracula became synonymous to the vampire.

4 History Another theory that strengthened people's belief in vampires, began in the 11th century. In those times, it was believed that people who committed suicide, or those who were excommunicated by the church, were likely to become vampires. The myth of vampires never ceased to exist, rather it evolved with every century, thus rising fear in people. . This age gave rise to the 'Gothic' novel, that turned these blood sucking vampires into charming erotic beings, who seduced people to suck their blood. Another story that is related to vampires is that of Countess Erzsebet Bathory, who killed young girls to drink their blood, which she believed would make her look young and beautiful forever. Though people are scared of them, there are some who are really fascinated by these dangerous beasts

To say that author Stephenie Meyer's success is approaching that of J.K. Rowling is too much of a stretch, but there is no doubt that her Twilight series - four novels in total - is a smash hit with young fans. The complicated love story of Bella, a "normal girl", and Edward, a vampire, has captured the imagination of thousands of young fans around the country. As readers have devoured the four-book series from Meyer, a growing fan base has emerged. These young fans have created message boards and online forums dedicated to Twilight and their presence is widely visible on social networks like Facebook and MySpace.

21 Twilight Opens to Huge Crowds in Los Angeles
Hundreds of "fanpires" waited hours to get a glmpse of new stars Robert Pattinson, who plays the heart-throb vampire Edward and Kristen Stewart, who plays the girl-next-door character Bella - the narrator of the stories. There has been a targeted advertising blitz in recent weeks on television shows that cater to female teen and young-adult viewership. But the phenomenon that is Twilight has actually managed to capture the imagination of older women as well, including married women with children. As the buzz around the Twilight premiere continues to grow, there is already talk of sequels and if and how the remaining books in the series will be made into movies. If the excitement surrounding this first installment is any indication, it seems likely that there will be a few more Twilight movies in our future.
