How Can You Stand Up to a Bully? Take a clipboard, pencil, and a handout from your group’s basket. Work with your group to complete “Choose Your Words” and “Being A Pal”. When you are finished, complete the questions on the next slide on the back of your paper.

Ask E-Guy Dear E-Guy, A girl in my class trips and kicks me when no one is looking. My teacher never believes me. She just calls me a tattletale and says I should focus on my work. What can I do? Signed, Black and Blue Dear E-Guy, Three teenagers hang out at the end of my street. Every morning on my way to the bus stop, they ask for spare change. Today they threatened to beat some money out of me. What should I do? Signed, Really Worried E-guy has a popular online advice column for young people. Today, E-guy’s computer crashed and he needs you to fill in. Answer the questions below on the back of your handout.

Do you think you might have a bully for a friend? Look for the warning signs below: Do you feel upset when you’re around this friend? Do you think the friend just wants something from you (help with school, to fit in, etc.)? Do you feel stressed, angry, or sad after being with this friend? Do you have a headache, stomachache, or other help problems when you are with the friend or afterward? Does your friend often say things that are negative or insulting about you? Does your friend ask you to do things you don’t want to do?

You Have the Choice to Make Better Friends! Join activities and hobbies that your problem friend isn’t interested in. Make new friends by saying hello to at least one new person each day. Stand up for yourself! Don’t let someone bully you into wasting one more minute on a bad friendship. Get help when you need it by talking to a teacher, counselor, or family member you trust.
