The Evolution of a Woman

Women have not yet achieved equal status in contemporary American society due to the existence of gender roles.

And here’s why…

A blast from the past…

Traditional Female Gender Roles

Those gender roles slowly evolved…

Into UNATTAINABLE societal “norms”

But then, we slowly started to fight back…

We challenged these roles and this led to the modern day feminist movement.

But of course, as history shows us, whenever a “radical” notion is supported, there will be backlash.

We cannot ignore the fact that when people mock our attempts at equality, sometimes it is meant as simply a joke. However, this does not mean that it is acceptable. Memes are all fun and games until they begin to promote inequality.

Economic Inequality According to the AAUW (American Association of University Women), women in EVERY state experience the pay gap, but in some states it’s worse than others. Women face a pay gap in nearly every occupation. The pay gap has barely budged in a decade. At the current rate, the gap won’t close for more than 100 years. As of 2014, on average, women made 79 cents for every dollar a man made in the exact same occupation. The pay gap ranges across the United States. In D.C., women earn 90% of what men earn. However, in Louisiana, women only earn 65% of what men earn. We also cannot ignore the reality that women of color experience a harsher pay gap.

Gender Roles have always affected our society. But it is our job to ensure that they do not define our society.
