What is a moral? A moral of a story: 1. teaches a lesson in living, or how to behave 2. It is often the theme, or main idea, of a story or passage.
How are morals given in stories? Morals are given two ways: 1. Directly stated 2. Implied
How are morals directly stated? Morals that directly stated are: 1. Said by one or more characters 2. Or said/stated by the narrator
How are implied morals given in a story? To identify implied morals: 1. Look at the clues given in the story 2. Pay attention to what the characters say and do. 3. Pay attention to the events, or plot, of the story.

What are conflicts? 1. Conflicts are the main problems in stories. 2.Conflicts center around the main character, or characters, problem.
What are the types of conflicts found in stories? 5 basic types of conflicts: 1. man vs. himself (it’s all in your head) 2. man vs. man 3. man vs. a group or society 4. man vs. wild (nature) 5. man vs. machine
How do you identify the conflict in a story? To identify conflict think about: 1. the events of the story 2. the main character(s) wants, their goal 3. and what, or who, is in the way of main character reaching the goal (getting what they want!).
