Presentation transcript:

Tackle problems identified by local communities – bottom up problem solving approach Natural links with other DMG projects i.e. Joint assets, high need families unique opportunity for an area based pilot including the statutory/ voluntary sector working in partnerships Strategic investment – signal LSP commitment to dealing with urgent quality of life issues and providing external funding lever.

Combination of new + proposed initiative with four main strands : 1. Safer Communities – a community safety project led by the police, overseeing work to deal with prostitution, enviro – crime, bookmakers, alcohol abuse etc. 2. Healthier Communities – opportunities to tackle known health inequalities and emerging public health agenda 3. Prosperous Communities – as a result of improved car parking facilities, possible development of Business Improvement District, transport improvements and link to possible re-brand of Southall College as business school 4. Connected Communities – deliver work that improves community cohesion and integration, with a focus upon inter- generational work that builds bridges between residents from different backgrounds

 SCA arranges meeting of 4 themed Sub-groups – ensuring full resident and VCS participation  SCA provides regular monitoring reports to DMG/LSP about project delivery  Reports prepared by local delivery agencies themselves  Promotion and publicity of success in local media  Annual evaluation of different projects that would be shared with all partner / stakeholders

LBE London Fire Bridge Police Ealing PCT Local businesses Resident participation Voluntary sector

Too many cooks – one group providing co-ordination of various strands of work, allows delivery partners to focus upon delivering high quality work Value for money – targeted LSP investment can provide foundation to attract external funding to Southall Improved public confidence in a clearly defined / managed initiative Provide successful model of working that can be exported to other parts of LBE Strong and visible cohesion benefit from having Southall residents collaborating / sharing resources to overcome local problems.
