Pulse Pressure: Difference between the systolic and diastolic measurements (Remember systolic is the number on the top of the ratio) Ex: 120/80 means that you would have a pulse pressure of 40 More than a pulse pressure of 60 indicates that you have a higher risk of cardiac problems

Pulse: Alternating expansion and contraction of an artery as blood flows through it. There are 8 main pulse or pressure points in the human body.

Arteries Area served 1. Common carotid--------------------------------------------------Head and face 2. Internal Carotid----------------------------------------------------Brain 3. External Carotid---------------------------------------------------Face (pulse point) 4. Vertebral --------------------------------------------------------- Spinal Column and Brain 5. Brachiocephalic------------------------------------------------- Right arm, Head, and shoulder 6. Subclavian ------------------------------------------------------ Shoulder 7. Axillay--------------------------------------------------------------Axilla Area 8. Brachial ----------------------------------------------------------Upper arm and elbow (pulse point) 9. Radial------------------------------------------------------------ arm, wrist (pulse point)

Arteries Area Served 10. Thoracic aorta -----------------------------------------------------------------Chest 11. Splenic---------------------------------------------------------------------------Spleen 12. Hepatic--------------------------------------------------------------------------Liver 13. Superior mesenteric --------------------------------------------------------Small intestine and colon 14. Renal----------------------------------------------------------------------------Kidney 15. Common iliac-----------------------------------------------------------------Lower abdominal 16. Internal iliac------------------------------------------------------------------Pelvis and bladder 17. External iliac------------------------------------------------------------------Groin and lower leg 18. Femoral ------------------------------------------------------------------------Groin (pulse point) 19. Popliteal -----------------------------------------------------------------------Knee area (pulse point) 20.Anterior tibialis --------------------------------------------------------------Anterior lower leg 21. Posterior tibialis------------------------------------------------------------Posterior lower leg 22. Dorsalis pedis ---------------------------------------------------------------Ankle (pulse point)

Veins Area Served 1.External jugular------------------------------------------------------------------ Face 2. Internal jugular ----------------------------------------------------------------- Head and Neck 3. Subclavian -----------------------------------------------------------------Shoulder and upper limbs 4. Brachiocephalic --------------------------------------------------Right side of head and shoulders 5. Left cephalic -------------------------------------------------------------------- Shoulder and axillary 6. Axillary --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Axillary Area 7. Brachial -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Upper Arm 8. Radial ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lower Arm and wrist 9. Superior vena cava ----------------------------------------------------------- Upper part of body 10. Inferior vena cava ------------------------------------------------------------- lower part of body 11. Hepatic --------------------------------------------------------------------------Liver

Veins Area Served 12. Renal ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kidney 13. Splenic -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spleen 14. Superior mesenteric --------------------------------------------------------- Small intestine and colon 15. Common iliac ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lower abdominal and pelvis 16. Internal iliac -------------------------------------------------------------------- Bladder and reproductive organs 17. External iliac ------------------------------------------------------------------- Lower limbs 18. Great saphenous -------------------------------------------------------------Upper Leg 19. Popliteal ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Knee 20. Posterior tibialis ---------------------------------------------------------------- Posterior Leg 21. Dorsalis venous arch ------------------------------------------------------------- Foot
