6 SHOCK Shock is the condition in which the circulatory system fails to circulate oxygen-rich blood to the body Signs and Symptoms Restlessness or irritability Rapid and weak pulse Rapid breathing Pale, ashen, or bluish skin Excessive thirst Nausea and vomiting Drowsiness or loss of consciousness

11 H EAT AND COLD EMERGENCIES Heat Stroke- Heatstroke—when the body loses its ability to cool itself by sweating because the victim has become dehydrated Symptoms Hot, dry skin Higher than normal body temperature Rapid pulse Shallow breathing Loss of consciousness Care for heatstroke Call 911 Take to cool place Do not give anything to drink if person is vomiting

12 H EAT AND COLD EMERGENCIES Heat cramps-muscle spasms that occur when vigorously exercising in heat Treatment Cool down Gently massage muscle Drink water Dehydration—occurs when the body loses more water than is taken in Symptoms Thirst Headache Fatigue Loss of appetite Dry eyes and mouth Nausea Disorientation Treatment Drink water
