1 ENGLISH CIVIL WAR What outcome of the civil war was the most significant? By: Kurtis Chatterson Social Studies 9 (Block 7)

2 WHO WERE THE MAJOR PLAYERS? Charles I was monarch of Three kingdoms English, Scotish,James I was crowned as And Irish. He was the first monarchthe Scotish king on March Of England. He was born24,1603 until his death. He November 19,1600died March 27, 1625

3 MAJOR EVENTS OF THE WAR In 1625, Charles I is awarded to the English throne 1628, Charles recalls parliament, parliament draws up petition of rights 1629, Charles dismisses parliament and does not begin meetings until 1640 1633, William Laud appointed the Archbishop of Canterbury 1637, Charles attempts to impose Anglican services on the Presbyterian church of Scotland 1639-1640- Bishops wars start in Scotland 1640, May 5, Charles dissolves short parliament October 25, Charles was forced to sign the treaty of ripon November 3, First meeting of long parliament December 11, the root and branch petition submitted to the long parliament

4  1641 July, The long parliament passes “An act for the regulating the privies council and for taking away the court commonly called the star chamber  August, The root and branch bill rejected by the long parliament  October, Outbreak of the Irish rebellion of 1641  December 1, The grand remonstrance is presented to the king  December 3, The long parliament passes the bishops exclusion act

5 THE TIME PERIOD OF THE WAR  The English Civil war started on August 22, 1642 And ended September 3 1651

6 LOCATIONS OF BATTLE  The wars happened in Manchester, England and in around those areas They had many meetings in a palace on where they wanted to fight.

7 WHAT WAS GOING TO BE THE SIGNIFICANT OUTCOME?  The outcome was a republican common wealth lead by Oliver Cromwell. The people of the three kingdoms gained more religious tolerance. Also more limitations were placed on power especially the monarchy. After the war was over Charles 1 was beheaded and was killed instantly. There was speculation that Oliver Cromwell blackmailed Charles I into becoming leader of the wars. In the end Oliver Cromwell did not make it in to parliament.
