2 Who? The Stamp and Townshend Acts affected most of the colonists.

3 What? During the Stamp Acts, colonists had to pay for an official stamp on paper products. This stamp would be on legal documents, licenses, newspapers, and playing cards. The Townshend acts had colonists pay duties on imported glass, lead, paint, and tea.

4 When? The Stamp Acts occurred between 1765 and 1766. The Townshend Acts occurred between 1767 and 1768.

5 Where? The Stamp Act happened in New York, and Boston, Massachusetts. The Townshend Act happened in Massachusetts.

6 The Stamp Act - Why/Outcome? Prime Minister Grenville heard complaints about the Sugar Act  Asked colonists if they had a better plan. Stamp Act  Passed in March 1765  Affected most colonists  Required to pay for an official stamp Legal documents, licenses, newspapers, pamphlets, and playing cards. Could be fined or sent to jail for not paying.

7 The Townshend Acts- Why/Outcome? Townshend Acts  Placed duties on imported glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea Paid for military costs and the salaries of colonial governors.  Writs of Assistance Special forms allowed tax collectors to search for smuggled goods. British officials used these to enforce the Townshend Acts  Boycotted British goods
