6 Steel Erection Decision Tree Is the activity at the jobsite listed in 1926.750(b)(1)? Yes No IS the activity listed in.750(b)(2)? Then this activity IS covered by Subpart R Yes No Then you must determine if this is going on in conjunction with (during and a part of) steel erection activities in (b)(1). A question to ask: Does this (b)(2) activity have to be done for steel erection to continue: If yes, and if done during (b)(1) activities, then it is covered by the standard. Because it is listed in neither (b)(1) nor (b)(2), it is not covered by the standard.

7 7 Definition: Competent Person One who can identify existing or predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has the authorization or authority by nature of their position to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them

8 Definition: Qualified person One who, by possession of a recognized degree, certificate or professional training, or who by extensive knowledge, training, and experience, has successfully demonstrated the ability to solve or resolve problems relating to the subject matter, the work, or the project

9 Specific Requirements (b) Roof and floor holes and openings must be installed as follows: (i)Framed metal deck openings must have structural members turned down to allow continuous deck installation except where not allowed by structural design constraints or constructibility (ii) Roof and floor holes and openings must be decked over. Where large size, configuration or other structural design does not allow openings to be decked over (such as elevator shafts, stair wells, etc.) employees must be protected in accordance with chapter 296-155 WAC, Part C-1 or Part K.

10 10 Specific Requirements (iii) Metal decking holes and openings must not be cut until immediately prior to being permanently filled with the equipment or structure needed or intended to fulfill its specific use and which meets the strength requirements of (c) of this subsection, or must be immediately covered.
