2 4 Types of Sentences:  1.) Simple  2.) Compound  3.) Complex  4.) Compound-Complex

3 Notes Simple Sentence- A simple sentence (also called an independent clause) contains a subject and a verb, and it expresses a complete thought. Ex: Students at Union like to sleep late during their vacation. Ex. My friends and I want to go to Florida this summer.

4 Notes Compound Sentence- A compound sentence contains two or more independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction (BOYSFAN) or a semicolon. Ex: I tried to write a poem, and my sister tried to write a song. Ex. My grandpa used to play basketball; he is too weak now to shoot, and he must be careful.

5 Label each as a simple (S) or compound (C) sentence. ____1.The baby had been changed and fed, but she continued to cry. ____2.The winter wheat and corn crops ripen in early spring. ____3.This magazine contains an article by my favorite novelist. ____4.Many immigrants chose to come to America freely; others were brought here against their will. ____5.On a hot summer day, cold lemonade tastes refreshing. ____6.The winning player waved to the crowd and held her prize above her head.
