Cassandra Warford 4 th period

 She became Queen of England at the age of 25.  She greatly enjoyed drama.  She was quite an independent woman (which was uncommon for that time period.)

 She died March 24 th, 1603.  Soon after her death it was announced that James VI of Scotland would become King.

James VI of Scotland (later referred to as James I of Britain) was raised Protestant, like Queen Elizabeth. He was a distant cousin of the queen. Many disapproved of the choice of his ruling.

 She was the daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn (who was executed two and a half years later.)  She turned down the hand of multiple men and never married anyone.  She left no heir to the throne.

 Queen Elizabeth balanced being a lady and being a queen.  Although she did not have any interest in getting married, she still let men court her.  As a leader, she recognized the appropriate times to do what needed to be done.

Strengths:  She was an effective leader. Weaknesses:  When she passed away, the citizens were reluctant and questioned the rule of King James.

 Shakespeare did not directly allude to Queen Elizabeth in Macbeth, but her death may be very well be the reason he wrote Macbeth. Power struggles have created conflicts since the beginning of time.

Shakespeare was probably trying to warn the people of becoming too selfish/ power-hungry. They did not feel King James should be the king. He was no more directly the next heir than a few more of her relatives. So Macbeth represented what would happen if people were to become murderous for power. I’d say it was pretty effective.
