5 Key Terms Home: any place people live Houses: a single family houses, town homes, apartments, mobile homes, duplexes, etc. Private areas of the house: bedrooms and bathrooms Public or shared areas: kitchens, living rooms, dens, dining rooms, etc. Multi-use areas: like a kid’s bedroom for sleeping and entertaining Obj. 2.01: Practice ways to organize and design living space.

7 Floor Plan: drawing of a room or house and how the furniture is arranged. It looks like you are looking down from the ceiling. Scale floor plan: a drawing that shows the size and shape of a room Traffic pattern: a path people follow as they move within a room, leave at least 2 feet of space between furniture for walking Obj. 2.01: Practice ways to organize and design living space.

8 Arranging your space Using a scale floor plan helps you to arrange your furniture and storage place ◦ A certain number of inches = a certain number of feet in the room Special symbols are used to show doors, windows, and closets (blueprint symbols) You can draw a scale floor plan of your room on graph paper ◦ This saves you time and energy before moving furniture! 9 Shared space: the area you share with members of your family and guests To avoid problems sharing rooms, respect each other’s rights ◦ Respect privacy when they want to be alone ◦ If the door is closed, knock before entering ◦ If you want to borrow something, ask first! 10 Decorating your space The way you decorate says a lot about you ◦ You can paint your room in your favorite colors ◦ You can hang posters to show your interests Your values and your resources of time, talent, and money will affect your decorating decisions Get approval from your parents before starting any decorating decisions!!!!!
