5 Procedures Attendance-Attendance is taken daily at 9:10. If your child arrives after that, a late pass must be obtained at the office when he or she is signed in. Excuse notes are required for tardiness as well as absences. Birthdays-To celebrate your child’s birthday, you may send in a peanut free treat for your child to share with the class. We have 22 students in our class. Vacation- Work will be completed upon your return. A journal will be sent with the student. They will share their adventure when they return. Notes-place in green folder. Star of the week-One week before your child is “star”, you will receive a special poster. Please help your child complete it and return it the following Friday. The star student will sit in our “star chair” for the entire week. Lunch tickets-Setting up a lunch account is highly recommended. It frees your child from handling money, which is sometimes lost. Snack-Pack “ONE” healthy snack each day. Dismissal-Remember to send in a note if your child is going to be a car rider.

May./June All children develop at different times Age and birth date can play a role in level Word accuracy, comprehension, and fluency are used to determine the level *When parents read to their children and speak to them in conversations, it helps kids build vocabulary and nurture basic reading skills*

9 Reading *Your child should be exposed to literacy every night* Choose a book together and parent reads to child. Echo reading-parent reads a section aloud with the child following along. Then the child reads the same section. Paired reading- parent reads a section, then the child reads a section. Keep taking turns. Please check and have your child make any corrections needed. In addition, each night your child should do some type of literacy. (See reading slide)

15 Homework Monday-Thursday 10 minutes-If your child finishes earlier, have him/her read for pleasure, write a story, or practice math facts with flashcards or on the computer. Please have all written homework completed in pencil and done as neatly as possible. PLEASE CHECK FOR ACCURACY AND NEATNESS. If there is a problem completing homework, please write a note. Homework is never worth tears!
