2. Residential Plumbing Components
A residential plumbing system is made up of THREE major subsystems.
Supply : Carries water from underground water mains, storage tank, or well into the building for distribution to various fixtures.

Supply Components Fresh water is piped into the house by means of a ¾ - 1“ copper pipe at about 75 PSI. The pressure is reduced to about 43 PSI by a device inserted into the line called a Pressure Reducing Valve.

Anti-Siphon Valve: Special valve attached to the top of the hot water tank that prevents the tank from being drained in the event of a pressure drop.

Supply Components (Con’t) Pressure Relief Valve : In the event that the tank becomes overheated due to a malfunction, this valve will open to prevent the buildup of steam.
