Frayer Model / Ratify

Articles of Confederation  Weaknesses No executive or judicial branch Congress could not enforce laws Trade between states was difficult because the national gov’t (Congress) had no power to regulate/make laws about trade No national currency Congress could not tax-this means no services Country had bad credit. Congress couldn’t tax so we couldn’t pay back loans Could not make laws unless 9 out of 13 states agreed Any attempt to amend the articles all 13 states have to approve States pretty much can do whatever they want

AP 1: Think Pair Share  Which of the weaknesses do you believe had the most negative impact on our nation? Explain your answer.

Is the power of taxing important? YES!!!!!

American Life  Since congress could not tax, they had to borrow money from the states  States increased taxes on their ppl to help pay for the war What do you think happened?  People went into debt especially the farmers Many farmers lost their farms/land

Shay’s Rebellion  Occurred in Massachusetts 1786  Farmers were outraged that their farms were being taken away  They couldn’t pay the taxes!!!  Began to hold violent protests  WAS A WAKE UP CALL THAT SOMETHING NEEDED TO BE DONE!!!!

AP 2 Cause and Effect / Shays Rebellion
