12 Condition today 1934 restoration began By Civilian Conservation Corps Under Union Oil officials Had to be a historical monument Had to have enough land Historical information came from: –Archaeological digs –Clay dug from hillsides to make adobe bricks –A lot of hard work Currently has a new visitor center

13 Fun Facts Did you know this was the 11th mission founded? Did you know that the Roman Catholic Church had a rule that no mission could be within 7 miles from any city, but that Mission La Purisima was the exception to that rule? In 1806, 220 people (mostly Chumash Indians) died at the mission, primarily due to disease Did you know this mission currently has 1,928 acres? Did you know this mission originally had 300,000 acres!!??
