11. Adams- Onis Treaty 1819: Secretary of State John Quincy Adams gets all of Florida from Spain and Spain gets some U.S. land claims in Texas. Mexico declares independence in 1821 from Spain……..soooo….we win lol!!!

12. Monroe Doctrine Spanish Empire in South America crumbles- Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia and Ecuador all declare independence

13. U.S. doesn’t want European countries to take over the new lands because we want to trade with them. Monroe Doctrine of 1823 says no European colonies can be created Its illegal to do this but we do anyway No way of enforcement unless britian helps so we promise them some trade rights. Very successful policy, sets standards for U.S. policy- policing!!!
