2 Definition: Conflict involving: military alliances, wars carried out by third parties, espionage, and threats but that avoided direct military action.

3 Definition of the Cold War A global competition between two ideologies: Democratic World led by U.S.A vs Communist World led by U.S.S.R.

5 Peace Conferences held prior to the end of World War II: 1. Yalta Conference (Feb. 1945) Churchill, FDR, Stalin 2. Potsdam Conference (July 1945) Attlee, Truman, Stalin The Atomic Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima 2 days after the end of the conference. FDR dies of a stroke… Vice President Harry Truman becomes President and has to lead the country to a victory against the Japanese Arguing “Self Determination”

10 1948 The Berlin Blockade The Soviets stopped and searched all road and rail traffic into Berlin.
