2. First Monotheistic Religion Judaism was the very first Monotheistic religion. The one god was called Yaweh.

3. Founded by: Abraham was the leader of a tribe in Mesopotamia called the Hebrews. He founded the religion about 4,000 years ago.

4. Covenant with God Moses is one of the central figures in the Jewish Religion. He Made a new covenant with God on Mount Sinai Here God gave him the ten commandments. The people would be led to the “Promised Land” if they followed the commandments

5. Place of Worship Jewish people go to worship in a temple or a synagogue. Here they learn from the Religious leader or Rabbi.

6. Sabbath Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath The Sabbath must be kept Holy This means no work

7. Holy Book The Jewish Holy book is called the Torah It includes the books of the bible that Christians call the Old Testament.

8. View of God God is seen as all powerful. God is also seen as a stern being Yaweh is feared and respected

9. Messiah or Savior In the Jewish Religion the savior is not believed to have come yet. Jews are still waiting for the Messiah.

10. Afterlife Jews believe there is an afterlife and every year there is a Judgment day.

11. Location Jews have been a wandering people for centuries. They have been discriminated by people all over the world. In 1948 a Jewish homeland was created in the Middle East called Israel. This is where the religion originated.

12. Holidays Rosh Hashana: Jewish New Year. Celebrated in the fall because that was the start of the economic year. Yom Kippur: Day of Atonement, October 13 this year. Passover: day that remembers when Moses led the slaves out of Egypt.

13. Channuka: Celebrated for 8 days in December. It started off as a minor holiday to celebrate the restoration of the temple in Jeruselum after Seleucid forces had looted it and killed many Jews. Now it is more widely celebrated because it comes at the same time as Christmas.
