1 Warm-up Review pages 256-257 Answer: – What is alike and different about the view of Jesus in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam?

2 What is Judaism? Judaism is the oldest religion of the western world and has influenced Christianity and Islam. Hebrews are the ancestors of the Jewish people. They believed they had a special relationship with their God and that they were God’s chosen people.

3 Jewish Traditions Jews worship in synagogues led by a Rabbi. Rabbi is a Hebrew word that means “master.” Their Sabbath, or holy day, begins at sunset Friday and ends sunset Saturday. Important Jewish holidays: Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year), Yom Kippur (a Day of Atonement or confession), Simchat Torah (celebrating receiving the Torah on Mount Sinai), Chanukah/Hanukah (Festival of Lights), and Passover (commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery)
