3 “The Bridge” Third graders come as 2 nd graders and leave as 4 th graders Personal Responsibility is very important this year. Allow your child to fail and succeed without your rescue.

6 If your child will be going home any way other than his/her normal means of transportation, send a note in the morning. Dismissal changes must be in writing and cannot be taken over the phone/email/text unless it is a change for the student to remain at school. The office is unable to change the mode of transportation over the phone, through email or after 2PM each day.

8 Students copy homework down each day into their agendas. Homework is also posted on our website. Students will have Reading and Math homework each night. Students will always have a chance to begin it in class. If they use time wisely, most should finish by the end of the day. 30 minute rule Folders, agendas, journals hold homework assignments Friday Folders come home Fridays and are returned on Mondays. Please initial the behavior log inside.

9 Students need to be in the classroom before 7:50… If sick- keep your child at home, please If your child is out- send an excuse when he/she returns. If out more than one day- please pick up class work.

11 Spelling: Words Their Way Spelling Program Words come home on Mondays in journals Tests on Friday All word lists will be posted on the class website! Grammar: Taught each week through mini-lessons, morning work and Writing

12 Guided reading Literature circles Whole group reading Whole group mini-lessons In 3 rd grade, we begin to shift from learning HOW to read to learning FROM reading.

13 Taught daily Writing Journals Integrated through Math, Social Studies and Science. We will learn CURSIVE this year!

14 Math RAP/Number Talks/Math Journals. We do this daily on our SMARTBoard. Guided math Whole group Games (On the computer and with partners) Homework reviews the skills taught each day. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts need to be memorized by the end of the year!
