4 “The Failure To Help” The MS St. Louis was a German ocean liner most notable for a single voyage in 1939, in which her captain tried to find homes for 937 German Jewish refugees. The United States turned them away. What do YOU think the US should have done?

5 Stage 1-Discrimination of Jews Through propaganda- they portrayed the differences between Germans and Jews, and the inferiority of Germans.

9 Stage 2- Isolation from society once labeled as a Jew Jews were not allowed to attend German schools or universities. Many people stopped being friends with Jews as they were not allowed to socialize. Through the economy, Jews were excluded from civil service and Jewish businesses were taken over by Germans.

10 A motorcyclist on a village outskirts takes in a sign proclaiming “Jews are not welcomed here,” circa 1935. These storm troopers are outside Israel’s Department Store in Berlin. The signs read: "Germans! Defend yourselves! Don't buy from Jews." The store was ransacked during Kristallnacht in 1938, then handed over to a non-Jewish family.

19 Stage 4- Mass Murder It is estimated that the Nazis murdered approximately 11 million innocent civilians during WWII. People died mostly through shooting, suffocation in gas chambers, and imprisonment in labor and death camps. 2/3 of the entire Jewish population was killed by the Nazis.

26 Haiku "Haiku" is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The lines rarely rhyme. First line is 5 syllables Second line is 7 syllables Third line is 5 syllables Here's a Haiku to help you remember: I am first with five Then seven in the middle – Five again to end.
