3  Junior Meeting- Introduction to Naviance, college discussion, teacher letters of rec, essay topics.  College Campus Visits- Begin physically scouting campuses and settings.  SAT/SAT Subject Test/ACT- Establish a baseline to build off of.  Strong conclusion to Junior year- Last direct impact on transcript before colleges evaluate later this Fall.

5 SENIOR GUIDANCE MEETING  FERPA agreement is required/ “Attention Seniors”  Scheduled with Mrs. Mitchell in Guidance  Parents welcome  Roughly 1 hour-1 hour 20 minutes  Goal: Develop process for your child’s individual plan

6 The smoothest process requires individualized attention/responsibilities from three different parties:  Student Role  Guidance Role  Parent/Guardian Role

7 Overview  Stay organized Keep a folder of all paperwork and date activities as they happen.  Be inquisitive Ask questions!! Your inquiries help us guide your actions.  Manage time wisely Prioritize the college process high on personal list. *The only rule to play by is ‘The Earlier The Better”*

8 Student Role continued…  The Application Common App/ Independent Online App/Paper App Application type: Early Decision, Early Action, Regular Admissions, Rolling Admissions  The Essay Utilize the English Department for assistance (Eng. 12R deadline 10/06/14) Don’t be afraid to tell your story Answer complete question being asked Monitor length requirements  Letters of Recommendations 2-3 teachers (2 teachers plus coach/advisor/employer/clergy/etc.) Blue recommendation form

9 Student Role continued…  The Activities Resume Use the Green Junior Packet as a guide All colleges plus All Scholarships Highlight leadership roles  SAT/ACT Scores are evaluated based on highest individual section score and recalculated. Students must have test scores sent officially from collegeboard.org/actstudent.org Fairtest.org (List of test optional schools)

10 Answer: Two weeks prior to college application deadline! See school calendar for details! Your college application type and deadline will dictate your schedule. Once you know of a college you are applying to, learn its deadline FIRST!

11 The Guidance Department will oversee the processing of all applications submitted. The Blue Tracking Form- This form will individually track all applications submitted. Naviance- FERPA agreement will allow most supplemental submissions to happen electronically. Status can be monitored.

12 ** Communication is Key ** Monitor your child’s application process. Are they adhering to deadlines? Did they start their essay? Did they send official test scores to colleges yet? Continue discussions about: Distance Size Public vs Private/Cost Major

13 Answer:Contact the admissions office to confirm the accuracy of the letter. Schools often send a generic letter once an application is received. Don’t panic! Commonly this is simply information crossed in the mail.
