We Got This

Renewable Resources Pros The sun, wind, geothermal, ocean energy are available in the abundant quantity and free to use. The non-renewable sources of energy that we are using are limited and are bound to expire one day. Renewable sources have low carbon emissions, therefore they are considered as green and environment friendly Renewable helps in stimulating the economy and creating job opportunities. The money that is used to build these plants can provide jobs to thousands to lakhs of people. You don’t have to rely on any third country for the supply of renewable sources as in case of non-renewable sources. Renewable sources can cost less than consuming the local electrical supply. In the long run, the prices of electricity are expected to soar since they are based on the prices of crude oil, so renewable sources can cut your electricity bills. Various tax incentives in the form of tax waivers, credit deductions are available for individuals and businesses who want to go green. Cons It is not easy to set up a plant as the initial costs are quite steep. Solar energy can be used during the day time and not during night or rainy season. Geothermal energy which can be used to generate electricity has side effects too. It can bring toxic chemicals beneath the earth surface onto the top and can create environmental changes. Hydroelectric provide pure form of energy but building dams across the river which is quite expensive can affect natural flow and affect wildlife. To use wind energy, you have to rely on strong winds therefore you have to choose suitable site to operate them. Also, they can affect bird population as they are quite high.

Non-Renewable resources Pros Non-renewable sources are cheap and easy to use. You can easily fill up your car tank and power your motor vehicle. You can use small amount of nuclear energy to produce large amount of power. Non-renewable have little or no competition at all. For ex: if you are driving a battery driven car your battery gets discharged then you won’t be able to charge it in the middle if the road rather it is easy to find a gas pumping station. They are considered as cheap when converting from one type of energy to another. Cons Non-renewable sources will expire some day and we have to us our endangered resources to create more non-renewable sources of energy. The speed at which such resources are being utilized can have serious environmental changes. Non-renewable sources release toxic gases in the air when burnt which are the major cause for global warming. Since these sources are going to expire soon, prices of these sources are soaring day by day.

Gun Control Overview The term gun control as it is used in the United States refers to any action taken by the federal government or by state or local governments to regulate, through legislation, the sale, purchase, safety, and use of handguns and other types of firearms by individual citizens When Americans kill one another, they usually use a gun. In fact, Americans use guns to murder each other twice as often as they use any other murder weapons.

Making Gun Control More Strict Pros Most violent crimes in the US are a result from guns. Maniacs and Criminals can obtain guns very easily and can cause harm to people Depressed and suicidal people can kill themselves using a gun so if there was a control on guns there would be less suicide. No gun controls make dangerous weapons more available Terrorism, school shootings and other circumstances have made guns more dangerous. With no gun control more families can have gun, then more children can obtain guns so there will be more accidental death from guns. In the last 30 years, 75% of gun massacres in the US were from legally obtained guns, there for it should be limited. Cons Criminals will always find a way to obtain their guns, leaving law-abiding citizens without any weapons to use in defense. Crimes are often prevented by the deterrent effect of the possibility of victim gun possession. The 2nd Amendment to the Constitutionprotects the individual's right to gunownership. Woman and weaker individuals may have no means of self-defense from rape or other crimes, especially in the inner city. Banning guns will take away yet another piece of our liberty, which is one more step to socialism and totalitarianism. Police are often too overwhelmed to protect all citizens from violent crime.

Health Care Overview The health care system is made up of four parts; government, private insurance, providers, and regulators. Government- federal, state, and local level Federal- Dept. of health and human services (HHS) HHS plays the largest role in the US healthcare system HHS has sub agencies in it some of which include CHIP and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Paying for healthcare is the top financial problem in the US

Health Care Pros Make healthcare more affordable Nobody in the richest nation on Earth should go without healthcare Rights would improve public health Help small businesses Should be an essential gov’t service Should be a right for every American The US and Mexico are the only countries out of the 34 in the OECD that do not have universal health care. Could save lives Good for economic productivity- people live healthier lives and miss work less when they have health care It’s the wealthiest country; should be able to provide health care for all citizens. Could stop medical bankruptcy- 62% of US bankruptcy was due to medical expenses in 2007. Cons Leads to more gov’t spending and national debt Should be the person’s responsibility, not the gov’t Gov’t provisions would decrease the quality and availability of healthcare The Declaration of Independence does not say there is a right to independence could increase national debt and spending Could increase wait time for medical services- Medicaid Providing a right could raise taxes- in other countries it is paid for through higher taxes. Could lower availability of disease screening and treatment. People should pay for their own health care and not have it given to them by the gov’t- earned not given philosophy. The majority of Americans don’t believe there should be a right to health care. A right to health care could tempt people to overuse or take advantage of the system-
