2 What is the EIS? Who they are The EIS (The English institute of sport think there selves as the team behind the team. They deliver a range of performance impacting in Sports Science, sport medicine, technology and engineering solutions to Olympic and Paralympic and work with Premier league football, premiership rugby union and Rugby league. What they do There main aim is to improve performance and people work daily with coaches and athletes as part of their elite performers programme. They provide support for coaches and performance directors in helping to improve training, preparation and performance of their athletes. How they do it The services which they provide are guided by the technical programme need s of performance directors, coaches and athletes. They also work with athletes and coaches daily at high performance centres around the country and also travel the world with them.

3 Their Objectives and how they deliver them They offer an extensive network of internal and external expertise focused solely on performance impact – Through their network of nearly 250 sport science and medicine practioners. They have a unique network throughout England. They ensure Practioners have access to a pool of talent across all disciplines that they can draw upon. Quality Assurance – Their investment in technical leadership ensures that each practioners is part of an integrated quality assured network. They technically drive the discipline forward. Flexibility and Accessibility- Practioners operate out of a network of EIS high performance centre. Sports can choose to access support out of either single site or across the network. They ensure this is flexible and accessible to the needs of different sports. Access to the state of the art equipment, facilities and systems- Through the funding support of UK sport and sport England they are able to invest In equipment facilities and infrastructural systems to support competition, equipment and on line systems for injury recording. Value for money – They are a non profit organisation but they ensure they provide value for money for sports. Areas of Expertise

4 Support Profiles Winter Olympics support profiles Skeleton: The EIS provide a significant level of support to British skeleton based at the EIS high performance centre at the university of Bath. With a Annual spend of £125,00. The sport has also benefitted from the work of UK talent team and a collaboration between UK sport and EIS in order to identify athletes with ability to become part of the sports development and elite programmes. Using Power2podium initiative including Lizzy Arnold already a world championship bronze medallist. Short track : The EIS provide performance nutrition. Physiotherapy, psychology and performance lifestyle services to GB short track. They are currently working with 14 athletes. Bobsleigh: With an annual spend of £16,356.Alison Thompson and Natalie Woolsey provide Physiotherapy and Soft tissue therapy services respectively, working closely alongside British Bobsleigh coaches and support staff as part of an integrated team, whilst athletes also have access to sports medicine provision when required.

5 Initial Talent identification programme. Power2Podium campaign: Mission: To enhance Olympic and Paralympic performance pathways in the UK by delivering world leading, evidence based and technical solutions that have a direct impact on medal success in 2016 and 2018. The UK talent team is a collaboration between UK sport and the EIS. It supports the world class programme to identify and develop talented athletes and put in place support systems. Its part of the UK sport 8 year strategic investment and it focuses on 714 development podium potential athletes and their coaches who have the capacity to impact on future Olympic and Paralympic games.

6 Facilities, resources and coaching The EIS strategy focuses on creating performance environments fostering innovation, world leading expertise and high performance facilities to provide support for athletes leading up to 2012 and beyond. To deliver podium positions for sports, podium practioners need to be developed to provide world class support to Britain's top athletes. In order to achieve this, The EIS is committed to developing and retaining practioners to create a sustainable high performance system for sport science and medicine. The EIS also builds on its unique position to develop its staff to add value to sports with which they work.
