2 Grad Requirements ENGLISH | 4 years/4 credits MATHEMATICS | 3 years/3 credits SCIENCE | 3 years/3 credits SOCIAL STUDIES | 4 years/4 credits PHY ED | 2 semesters/1 credit HEALTH | 1 semester/.5 credit VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS | 2 semesters/1 credit Total of 24 credits to graduate, MCA tests: 9/Writing; 10/Reading; 11/Math, plus taking the ACT offered next year at AHS Empowering all learners for life!

3 Minimum College Requirements Empowering all learners for life! Riverland Community College, RCTC ENGLISH | 4 years MATH | 3 years SCIENCE | 3 years SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY | 3 years WORLD LANGUAGE | 2 years of same World Language Graduate from High School or GED ACT or SAT test not required. ACT recommended if transferring to a university or going into selective program like Health Science.

4 Minimum College Requirements Seven State Universities who are part of MSCU Bemidji State, Metropolitan State, Minnesota State University, St. Cloud State University, Winona State ENGLISH | 4 years MATH | 3 years (recommend 4 years) SCIENCE | 3 years SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY | 3 years WORLD LANGUAGE | 2 years of same World Language Top 50% of class, Average GPA 3.3 “Selective” ACT or SAT test Composite of 21 or higher on ACT Empowering all learners for life!

6 Minimum College Requirements Private Colleges Gustavus Adolphus, St. Olaf, Carleton, Luther College ENGLISH | 4 years MATH | 3 years (4 years recommended) SCIENCE | 3 years (4 years recommended) SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY | 3 years (4 years rec) WORLD LANGUAGE | Individual College Recommendation(usually 3-4 years of same World Language) Fine Arts | 2 years recommended Extra curricular activities with leadership positions Top 10% of class with GPA 3.6 or higher “Selective/Competitive” ACT or SAT test Composite of 27-31 or higher on ACT Empowering all learners for life!

7 World Languages  If you want to attend a 4-year college, keep in mind that 2 years of the same World Language are required by some and recommended by others.  Technical Colleges/2 year community colleges do NOT require a World Language.  A World Language is NOT required to graduate from high school. 8 PSEO Classes with Riverland CC To qualify for RCC classes your Junior or Senior year: Juniors | Must be in the top 1/3 of your class (or score in the top 70% on a Nationally, Norm- referenced test) Seniors |Must be in the top 1/2 of your class (or score in the top 50% on a Nationally, Norm- referenced test) Accuplacer Testing with scores in identified ranges AHS offers 8 concurrent RCC college classes Class rank in the fall of your sophomore and junior year will determine your eligibility. 12 Electives Consider Your Post High School plans…  What electives will help me the most in my future course of study or work?  Is there an area of study I am interested in pursuing, but don’t know a lot about it? Try an elective in that area.  Consider prerequisites now.  Choose carefully as schedule changes will be made only if there is an error or improper course placement in your schedule. 15 Study Halls If you currently struggle in your classes and/or are earning grades in the C-D range, or you have a lot of after school commitments please consider…  Taking a study hall. This built-in study time each day will allow you to stay on top of your homework.  Take time to develop good study habits.  No Credit will be earned for a study hall. 16 Research Classes  Ask your teachers. They can help you decide if a class is a good choice for you.  Discuss with your family and older siblings.  See your counselor or assistant principal with questions.  What you chose will be what you keep. 17 Language Arts Empowering all learners for life! * Students are recommended for this course. ** Students can take Jounalistic Writing as a junior and/or senior for both elective and writing credit in Language Arts. *** Students can meet the LA requirement by taking the following concurrent classes because each are worth.75 credit. 23 Your High School Transcript  Each student should have one set of permanent grades.  Each class passed is worth ½ credit  7 classes = 3 ½ credits each semester Empowering all learners for life!

24 What if I fail a required course?  You are given an excellent opportunity to pass your classes at AHS. Summer School is your ONLY option for recovering credit lost from failure of a required course. There are two (2) sessions of summer school. 12 days in length. 8:00 – 1:00. Each session is worth ½ (.5)credit.  To be a 10 th grader next year, you will need to complete a minimum of 5 credits by next fall.  To be eligible for sports 6 credits need to be completed!  Make 10 th grade a great year! 28 Attendance Policy Excused Absences Unexcused Absences  Bring note within two days Tardies  4 Tardies turn into lunch detention Loss of Credit – Hold on Grades  No credit in any course where the student exceeds three (3) unexcused absences or exceeds nine (9) absences within a semester.
