The Course Prerequisites Completed Geometry Scored minimum of 18 Composite on the ACT or PLAN if the former is not available – a Math or Science score of 18 may be substituted in lieu of

Textbook: Glencoe Chemistry: Matter and Change Published by McGraw-Hill Students may check the text out over- night, for several days or the entire trimester. You will be responsible for any damages to it during this time.

REQUIRED SUPPLIES: *Single Subject Spiral Notebook – ( 5-subject spiral notebooks will NOT be accepted nor graded) This is for home-work as well as Classroom Activities and LAB Reports * Calculator – a TI-30XA will suffice * Safety Glasses

Optional - purchase personal safety glasses; otherwise they can use the "community collection" of acquired safety glasses of former students-all safety glasses must meet the ANSI Z87.1 standard mandating side wings, brow bar, and impact resistant lenses. The ANSI Z87.1 is usually stamped on the temple side frames. If you do purchase a pair for your child be assured that they will be segregated from the "community" pool being kept in a separate plastic baggie.

The course grade is determined by a percentage of points earned divided by total possible points using Infinite Campus (IC), the school district's computer-based grading software. Please note- the total possible points per student can vary if a student has any excused absences from class. Unexcused absences are treated as zero point values. The breakdown of the work categories and possible points: – TESTS- (100 points)

There are a maximum of 110 points with 10 of them being considered extra credit points. Instead of calculating an actual percentage by taking points earned and dividing by 110, I simply subtract the points missed from 110 and use the resulting value as the "percentage” to be entered into Infinite Campus. - TEST RETAKES- (100 points) taken after school on an assigned date with transportation being the student's responsibility.

I handle potentially two tests over the same material in regards to Infinite Campus is by allocating 10% to the Original Test and 90% to the Retake. I handle potentially two tests over the same material in regards to Infinite Campus is by allocating 10% to the Original Test and 90% to the Retake. If no Retake, I double enter the Original Score

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS - (5- 10 points) these assignments are to be done outside of class in their spiral notebook or on given worksheets and will be checked at the beginning of class. Each spiral notebooks will be stamped indicating the homework was performed or not. In addition, several students, selected at random, will have their spiral notebooks or worksheet assignments collected during class and graded. Those graded will receive an actual grade for that assignment whereas the others will have a grade assigned when the notebooks are collected.

CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS- (5-10 points) these activities will be entered in the entered into the spiral notebook or added as worksheets to the 3-ring binder. Such activities will be handled just like homework described above. SPIRAL NOTEBOOK + 3-RING BINDER- 25pts will be collected test day and graded for neatness, compliance to directions and completeness. Assignments including homework that is missing or incomplete will reduce the score as does a lack of the specified organization.

While I have your notebook and binder over the weekend, at this time I randomly select assignments to be thoroughly graded - the number selected will match the point total for those selected daily at random. BELL-RINGER QUIZ- (5 points**) these are given at the beginning of class over material previously covered in class; usually consists of 6 questions of which one is considered extra credit as getting 5 correct is equated as being 100%, 4 correct = 80%, and all 6 correct would be 120%.

EXIT SLIP QUIZ- (5 points**) are at the end of a class period over today's material. It is scored just like the Bell-Ringers. ** After each combination of 6 Bell-Ringers and Exit Slips, I will drop the lowest score of that grouping from the IC calculation even though the score remains it is not computed. The only exception pertains to zeros for unexcused absences as they will be counted

TEAM ACTIVITIES- (5 points) are points earned by the group and every member receives the same score. Part of the determination involves staying on task and time management. These are subjective grades TECHNICAL WRITING PIECES ***- (10 points) several times during the trimester the students will have to write-up an experiment or perform an On-Demand writing piece. In addition to neatness, the completeness and correctness will be the scored factors.

FORMAL CRIME SCENE REPORT ***- (100 points) a text processed submittal requiring library and internet reference searches. Students will solve a question germane to an industry problem solved using laboratory data obtained by experimentation. Data tables and possibly graphs will be part of the report. Instructions will be given as how to create and save both using Microsoft Word and Excel. Most if not all of this work will be outside of class either using Scott's Library or a Kenton County Library after school hours.

This writing piece is part of the Scott Writing Continuum Policy; failure to submit automatically results in a failing course grade. Writing Pieces will be due at the beginning of the class period on the assigned date. If turned in later, even with an excused absence, there will be an additional 10% point reduction per day. Failure to submit the QC Report automatically results in a failing course grade

EXTRA CREDIT- NONE available So do not ask if anything extra can be done to raise your grade.

----CLASS EXPECTATIONS---- Be on time for class & Come Prepared DO NOT TALK while I am talking (Rule 1) Do Not talk while a classmate is asking or answering a question (Rule 1A) NO SHOUT OUTS (Rule 2)

STAY UNPLUGGED Stay in your assigned seat & in the room
