2. Philosophy Did you know that philosophy originated in ancient Greece?

3. Thesis statement Philosophy was important in ancient Greece because it helped them understand things. I will talk about the three philosophers, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.

4. Preview statement In my presentation I will talk about the importance of philosophy. My presentation will focus on the three philosophers: Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.

5. philosophers Thales was the first philosopher. Thales was born in miletus. Thales knew that water could be, liquid, solid or vapor. Some other philosophers were: anaximander, anaximenes, Pythagoras, heraclitus, Parmenides, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.

6. Socrates Socrates was one of the greatest philosophers in the world. He was always shabbily dressed and barefoot and would not teach for money. Socrates was the wisest man in Athens, but he claims he knows nothing. Socrates believed that happiness came from leading a good life.

7. Socrates continued Socrates was arrested for corrupting the minds of young people. He was sentenced to death and died by drinking hemlock. Socrates created the Socratic method of teaching. The Socratic method of teaching is teaching is teaching students to question everything.

8. Plato Plato was born into the aristocracy of Athens. the cut-throat, rough-and-tumble of politics disgusted him. He believed that a good government would have never murdered a good man like Socrates. He opened a school and his teachings focused on one question: is there a perfect world?

9. Aristotle Aristotle studied with Plato for 20 years, and many of Plato's ideas can be seen in his work. He thought Plato's unseen world of perfect forms was nonsense. The natural world fascinated Aristotle, and he was often seen down on all fours peering at plants or insects.

10. Plato continued Socrates never wrote down his thoughts. Plato wanted to make sure the great thinker was never forgotten, so he recorded Socrates’ ideas. He did this in the form of discussions between two people. Plato thought women should be educated because men and women have the same intellectual powers.

11. Aristotle continued Aristotle declared: “there is something marvelous in all natural things”. After Plato's death Aristotle opened his own school the lyceum, where Plato's philosophy was studied as well as criticized. Studying nature convinced him that everything was striving toward its own unique form of perfection.

12. conclusion Philosophy was one of ancient Greece's most important contributions. Without philosophy we would believe anything. Philosophy the love of wisdom and it taught us to go beyond the surface truth and look for deeper meanings.
