Always fill out in blue or black ink Have your personal data sheet with you to avoid mistakes Fill out the job application completely and neatly Determines whether you get called in for an interview When asked wage or salary write “open” or “negotiable” Read through the form first Write n/a in spaces that do not apply to you Be specific about which job you want Be observant of the amount of space that is designated for you to put your information in.

7 Your Resume Your resume is a brief outline of your education, work experience, and other qualifications. Usually should be one page in length Categories it should include Job Objective Education Work Experience Honors and Activities Special Skills and Interests References Try not to make your resume too long (its best to try to keep it to one or two pages)

8 Letter Of Application Also referred to as a cover letter; helps to introduce yourself. Three to four strong paragraphs Include in your paper The title of the job you are seeking Where you heard about the job opening Your strengths, skills, and abilities that are suited for this job When you are available to begin work A request for an interview List enough major accomplishments so that the employer will want to interview you

9 Your Portfolio A collection of your best work!
Samples or pictures of your work Letters of recommendation News articles about you with your name highlighted Reports or special projects that you have completed This can be done electronically or physically.

10 Conclusion It is best to have all of these materials together and ready to go for jobs. Make sure to go back periodically and update information as it changes, to ensure your job packet is always up to date.
