2 Aim of Today To give an overview of Sporting Futures Training and their partnership with Hertfordshire Schools To give an overview of School -based PE and School Sports Apprenticeships To give an insight into the work of a PE and School Sports Apprentice Could it work for your school ?

Working with PE and School Sport Hub Sites to deliver a quality program to support both young people and schools. Sporting Futures Training UK Ltd - Learning Provider established August 2011 for school – based PE and School Sports Apprentices Sub-contracted to work with Institute of Swimming,KEITS and Avanta to deliver Apprenticeships Working with centre approval to deliver qualifications through Active IQ, Cache, 1 st 4 Sport, Edexcel, Ascentis and Sports Leaders UK

8 Pathway Developed YR 1 PE and School Sports Apprentice Level 2 NVQ Activity Leadership Level 2 Employers Awareness Level 2 Award in Health Related Activity Additional NGB Awards, First Aid, safeguarding YR 2 Advanced PE and School Sports Apprentice Level 3 Diploma in Supporting the Delivery of PE and School Sport Additional NGB Awards Exit pathway Teaching Sports Teaching Assistant Sport and Leisure Industry Coaching Sports development Higher or Further Education

9 Delivery Delivery: In host school four days a week Supporting within PE throughout the school day Running lunchtime and after school clubs Supporting with preparation of teams for competitions/Festivals Supporting with administration with subject leader in primary/secondary Display boards Tidying PE cupboards Taking small cohorts of challenging grps to keep active Running Change for Life Clubs. In the classroom – supporting within lessons, paired reading

10 Value of programme to Primary schools Primary Timely use of Sports premium in addition with Government wage incentive. Schools can employ Sports Apprentice to provide increased opportunities for participation during lunchtime/after school activities Extra pair of hands to support PE Co-ordinator in primary Positive role model for young people Support in raising the profile of PE and School Sport within school and the community Engaging young people through healthy lifestyle agenda Home-grown coaching workforce that can be nurtured and developed into Teaching support for PE If trained within the SGO model they can provide the link with the local PE and School Sport network, thus enhancing opportunities for the linked school Can show impact 10

11 Commitment from Schools You will have a mentor within your setting and their role would be : To ensure Apprentice is given appropriate workload To support Apprentice within their school setting and be point of contact for both Apprentice and Lead Tutor To attend an introductory briefing with Lead Tutor to outline program Where and when possible to observe and monitor performance of Apprentice Ensure Apprentice is given appropriate break times and access to lunch Access to a computer and email important.

12 In Herts Our County Sports Partnership supports the workforce as they recognise the value to School Games Organiser’s Workforce Supports at Herts School Games Centralised training creates team environment Legacy Workforce PE and school sport network provides the infrastructure through which the programme is delivered 12

13 Evaluation of our programme from our young people David Bloomfield A10 Active ‘I cannot believe how much I have grown in one year, I came into this Apprenticeship not knowing what I wanted to do with my life, not knowing whether this was for me and if I wanted to go into university or not. Now, after all the hard work I have finally found my niche and it has been a pleasure to do this with the Sporting Futures Training Team. This whole year has been first class and I am so proud to say I am going to university, thank you to everyone because without you all this new me wouldn’t be standing in front of you ‘ Georgina Godfrey N. Herts ‘Thanks for an amazing year. I honestly couldn’t have gotten into Loughborough College without this year! I have had an amazing experience’ Ross Goodship Nobel School ‘ Brilliant first year, learnt loads, improved since I started and look forward to developing even more next year on my Advanced Apprenticeship with SFT’ 13

14 Value of programme to our Young People Become part of the Legacy workforce empowering them to i. Engage young people in healthy lifestyles, activities, competition, support with Teaching and Coaching ii. Support SGO workforce and CSP workforce for level 3 competitions Gain valuable employability skills, life skills, competency skills through work-based Learning Raised self-esteem and confidence i. Both the Apprentice and the young people with whom they work Increased pathway opportunities i. PE and Sports related pathways identified, access to Higher Education through vocational pathways, access to teaching through work-based learning Become Positive role models for young people through i. Peer to Peer support, extension of the Sports Ambassador programme, Citizens of tomorrow Raised aspiration Potential to support the local PE and School Sport networks as a vehicle for delivery of key programs 14

15 Wages 2015-2016 Employed and hosted within a primary, secondary or special school Unless working for dual use facility which involves shift work You will be paid on Apprenticeship wages: Intermediate Apprenticeship ( Approx’) £80 a week for 52 weeks. You wont be expected to take holiday time during term time. 19 plus will be paid the same in their first year of an apprenticeship with a potential negotiated uplift for experience. Advanced Apprenticeship (Approx’) 19 plus in the second year of an apprenticeship will be paid £150 a week
