2 The Driving Task Includes all social, physical, and mental skills required to drive To perform these skills in a low risk manner you need to develop habits for: Using knowledge and visual skills Obeying traffic laws Judging time and space Anticipating how your car will respond during normal and emergency conditions

3 Social Skills of Driving
While driving you must interact successfully with other people Being a courteous driver means you obey traffic laws and make an extra effort to work with other drivers Without courtesy and cooperation, low risk driving is impossible What is the opposite of being a courteous driver? Aggressive driving and ROAD RAGE

4 Physical Skills of Driving
You must learn the physical skills of driving so they become natural habits Once they become habit you can focus your attention on the social and mental tasks of driving What are the physical skills of driving?

DECISION MAKING

6 IPDE Process The process of seeing, thinking, and responding I- Identify-important information in the ongoing driving scene P-Predict-when and where possible points of conflict will develop D-Decide-when, where and how to communicate, adjust speed, and/or change positions to avoid a conflict E-Execute- the right actions to prevent conflict

7 Defensive Driving Once you master the IPDE you will be able to drive in a way that reduces conflict, which is called defensive driving Defensive Driving lowers the risk of conflict by protecting you and others from dangerous driving situations
