2 Forecasting  Course selections for next school year  Should complete your: Graduation Requirements Focused Program Requirements  Should meet requirements for: OSAA NHS Chancellor’s Diploma/Honors Program  Should prepare you for your: Post-High School plans

3 If You Are Involved In…  OSAA Athletics or Activities: Eligibility ○ Must pass 5 classes from previous semester ○ Must be enrolled in 5 classes at Glencoe ○ Must have 16+ credits entering senior year ○ 2.0 GPA if any Fs  National Honor Society and Honors Program Must be enrolled in 6 classes

4 Things to Consider  Chancellors Diploma Aligns with common 4-year university requirements 16 academic units – at least one extra! 3.4 GPA by end of senior year 2 credits of World Languages 26 total credits

5 Things to Consider  Honors Program Must be enrolled in 6 classes 8 honors-eligible courses (see worksheet) 3 years of same World Language 3.5 GPA THROUGH senior year No pass/fail on any honors-eligible courses 26 total credits Valedictorian or Saluditorian Must earn Honors Diploma No pass/fail AT ALL Vals: 4.0 GPA Sals: 3.98 GPA (THROUGH senior year)

6 Planning for After High School  Be realistic with your goals Consider your GPA, career plans, work ethic What do you need to do for that plan? Meet with your counselor or Mrs. Seeborg  “Look good on paper” Whether you’re getting a job or getting into college, make a good impression with class choices and grades!  Military: Must have a standard diploma (modified diploma and/or GED will not work ASVAB test

7 Planning for After High School  2-year college: Required Placement Tests in Reading, Writing and Math ○ Some programs require certain test scores to enroll Make sure to take classes senior year to help with these skills ○ 4 th year of Math or Science ○ Electives that will help you in these areas

8 Planning for After High School  4-Year College Continue to aim for a 3.0+ GPA ○ Oregon universities are 2.75+ Cs or better in all core classes ○ Ds are not acceptable 2 credits of the same World Language Extra math and science beyond HS requirements

9 SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER…

10 Senior Requirements  Language Arts: 1.0 credit (full-year)  Social Studies: 1.0 credit (many options)  Senior Seminar.5 (or focused program class)  Career Development.5 (complete with Mrs. Seeborg)

11 Senior Requirements  Rest of your schedule is electives: Can include: ○ Extra Math, Science, Social Studies, World Language ○ Early release/Late arrival ○ Honors Tutorial ○ Credit Recovery  Be realistic – consider your overall load Multiple Honors/AP classes? Extracurricular activities or a job?

12 Reminders for Graduation  (At least) 24 credits to graduate! Many different diplomas: ○ Modified, Standard, Chancellor’s, Honors  Ask yourself: Do I need Credit Recovery? Did you fail any classes along the way? Need counselor approval You can/should also attend summer school to get more on track before entering senior year  Math, Reading and/or Writing Workshops If you haven’t passed SBAC or work samples by the end of this school year

13 Reminders  AP Science Courses Chemistry and Environmental Science available 2015-2016  Math level will be recommended by current teacher  Questions about options for Math, Science, English or Social Studies? Ask your current teacher for their recommendations for you!

14 Reminders  Fire Science program At Liberty HS Both A and B days Requires an Application with essay, transcript and attendance report Information session happening TOMORROW: Wednesday, March 4 th at 1pm ○ Sign up by Wednesday morning in the counseling center to get a pass!

15 Glencoe Focused Programs  Arts & Communication Fine Arts Graphic Arts Performance Arts  Business & Management Accounting Marketing  Engineering  Health Services  Human Services (Early Childhood Education)  Manufacturing & Design Child Services 2 Welding/Woods/Drafting/ Arch Drafting 2 Business Management & Seminar Engineering Design & Development Humanities and/or Advanced Graphic Arts Health Occupations

16 Forecasting Sheet  Language Arts:  Social Studies: Remember to ask your teachers for their recommendations for you!

18 Forecasting Sheet  Electives: 5.0 credits total for graduation Fill out ALL elective options and ALL alternates in order of preference Try to add all your credits up to 8! ○ You have 4.0 from required classes Choose wisely! ○ The classes you get you will not be able to change once the school year starts!

19 Electives Reminders  Japanese, American Sign Language, Fire Science, Auto Tech – off-campus, and can impact your GHS schedule greatly  REMEMBER: Senior Focused Program courses, Math, Science, World Languages, AVID, Seminary, Honors Tutorial/Study Hall (if needed)  Math requires a signature from your current math teacher!  Spanish for Spanish Speakers For students who speak Spanish at home, but struggle with Spanish reading and writing skills Can take the STAMP (proficiency) test and earn additional Spanish credits Not appropriate for students who only speak Spanish at a beginning or early intermediate level

20 Forecasting Sheet  Neither Late Start nor Early Release are guaranteed – if there is a class you need or want, and it is offered 4 th period, plan to have a 4 th period class.  Must have parent signatures for early release, late arrival  Athletic Release for Varsity-level athletes ONLY

Due: ○ Thursday, March 5 th (If your English class on is on an A DAY) ○ Friday, March 6 th (If your English class is on a B DAY) Ask questions with your counselor when you hand it in!
