Your bellwork is to COPY and ANSWER the following: 1.Why would colonist chose to settle close to bodies of water? 2.Why were rivers important to the south (pg. 101)? 3.Why were rivers important to the north (pg. 105)? Have Venn Diagram on your desk ready to be checked!

2 Possible Bellringer Answers 1.Transportation, food source, water source 2.South used rivers to ship goods from interior to coast, then to Europe for sale. Also, fertile soil is found around rivers (good for farming). 3.North used rivers to power mills used to grind grain or saw lumber. Lumber was also transferred down the rivers to use for ship building.

Study the Mayflower Compact and Fundamental Orders. Where was Roger Williams sent to after being kicked out? Study the location of the 13 colonies from your maps. Know the region where plantations were found in the south. Study your venn diagram. Read over your fill in notes several times and make sure you understand them.
