2.  Crusade  Was war between Christians and the Muslims  The wars were over a land called the Holy Land  This land was Jerusalem and other places in Palestine

3.  The First Crusade was started when the Byzantine emperor asked Pope Urban II for knights to fight the Muslims Turks.  At the Council of Clermont in 1095 Pope Urban called Bishops and nobles to action.  Pope Urban called for a crusade to free the Holy Land because God said so.  First Crusade was a religious war.

11.  Reconquista  Campaign to retake lands in Spain from the Muslims who took it.  Took the marriage of Ferdinand and Isabella and 400 years to retake Spain.

12.  Inquisition  A church court set up to try people accused of heresy.  Jews and Muslims had to covert to Christianity.  If they didn’t they could be tried and killed.  This united the country but drove many of the skilled workers out of the country.
