2 REPORTED SPEECH O Reported Speech é utilizado para relatar o que outra pessoa falou com as nossas próprias palavras. Ex.: John said: I am going to Florida  John said that he was going to Florida. “I want to go with you”, said his friend.  His friend said that he/she wanted to go with him.

3 REPORTED SPEECH Quando passamos o Direct Speech para o Reported Speech, os verbos, advérbios e expressões de tempo em geral vão para um tempo mais passado, mais distante.

6 EXAMPLES He told me: I want these folders on my table now!  He told me that he wanted those folders on his table at that moment. Regina asked: May I come in?  Regina asked if she might come in. Edward answered: You may, but you should not.  Edward answered that she might, but she should not.

7 REPORTED SPEECH Se no Direct Speech o verbo “say” vier seguido de “to+object”, troca-se o verbo para “tell” sem o “to”: The teacher said to the children: Be quiet!  The teacher told the children to be quiet.

8 IMPERATIVE No Imperative, troca-se o verbo “say” por “tell ou ask” e o verbo principal volta ao infinitivo. Joseph said to him: Get off my sister!  Joseph told him to get off his sister. Her mother said to Olivia and her friends: Don’t play outside.  Her mother told Olivia and her friends not to play outside.

9 QUESTION How old are you?, asked the doctor.  The doctor asked me how old I was. He asked me: Do you believe in God?  He asked me if I believed in God. They asked us: Where have you been?  They asked us where we had been.
