2  Have you ever seen or used a camera that had different lenses? Each lens creates a unique effect. Some lenses let you zoom very close to an object while others let you take photographs of an entire horizon. What is the purpose of a lens? One purpose is that it lets you look at a scene in a particular way. You can look at the past through different lenses, too. Some of the “lenses” historians look through are economics, technology, government, culture, and geography. These are some of the major forces that affect events and individual choices.
