3 Time is valuable I understand that time is one of the most valuable things we have. Forty-two minutes is so little time to do all the things we need to do in class, so it is vitally important to make every minute count. When you talk or goof off or disrupt the class, you are wasting valuable learning time. That is not fair to my teacher, your classmates or to yourself. I understand that it is okay to talk: 1. If I raise my hand and the teacher calls on me. 2. I've seen an emergency and I must speak up so no one will get hurt. 3. The teacher has allowed time for group work But I know that I must not talk without raising my hand for permission: 1. During any instruction times or during videos. 2. When a student is asking or answering a question during an instruction time. 3. When the teacher has instructed the class that it is a quiet work time.

4 Have you been a disturbance in this class? When you talk during class it is hard for the other students to learn. To learn, you must be able to think about what you are doing. Most of us need it quiet to think and process information. If you do not want to learn or care about this class, then sit quietly so the other students can learn. Don’t take away the right to learn away from others. How is it that I bother other students? You can bother someone when you talk to them. Tapping a pencil or ruler can be distracting. Yelling or throwing things can also disturb others. I want to make sure everyone can learn without being bothered with the disturbances of others.

5 School is a place for learning. You can choose to use this time well or to not use it well. Those who choose to use their time well succeed in this class. Don’t make it hard for the teacher to do a good job teaching the whole class. You don't have the right to disrupt class. Students in my class have a right to the best education they are willing to work for. When you behave disruptively, you not only keep the teacher from doing a good job; you also keep students from getting the best education possible. This is not fair and YOU don't have a right to do this. You have the power to make good decisions or bad decisions. You deserve a good education and you have the power and responsibility to make this happen.
