2 Language Arts – Warm Up 10/03/17
First turn in your homework, if you had any. See below. I.A.N. – page 101 Title I.A.N. page 101 as “Punctuating Dialogue”. Be sure to also add this title to your Writing Strategies table of contents. Using page 21 of your SpringBoard text, use the Grammar & Usage box to copy the four bulletpoints/tips. ***If you finish early, read quietly.*** Turn in now: If you took the following item home for homework, submit it now: Reflexive/Intensive Pronouns sheet PAST DUE ITEMS: Flocabulary – “The Five Things” Second Independent Reading ½ sheet First Biblionasium Review (submit online)

I.A.N. – page 101 – “Punctuating Dialogue” Title I.A.N. page 101 as “Punctuating Dialogue”. Be sure to also add this title to your Writing Strategies table of contents. When writing dialogue, remember these points: Place a person’s spoken words inside quotation marks (beginning and ending). Place the period, comma, exclamation mark, or question mark inside the ending quotation mark. Capitalize the first word of dialogue. Start a new paragraph when a different character speaks. ***If you finish early, read quietly.***

Essential Question: How can change be significant? What makes a good story? Standard: ELASE6L1.b – Use intensive pronouns (ex.: myself, ourselves). Learning Targets: Define the concept of change through the reading of a narrative. Apply understanding of narrative elements to reading and writing.

Punctuating Dialogue First, add “Punctuating Dialogue Practice” to your Writing Strategies T.O.C. for page 102. Then, choose one of the following options to complete on I.A.N. page 102: Write a letter to your parents requesting a new cell phone; Write a letter to administration requesting a new class schedule; Write about a conversation you've had with friends at the lunch table You must include at least five instances of dialogue! Use your notes on I.A.N. page 101 to help you.
