Was fought between the French and Native Americans vs. British and the Colonists
Lasted 9 years
Last real struggle over control of the eastern United States.

3. Settlement Patterns British settled the coast and established farms.
French settled inland and set up forts that doubled as trading centers with the natives.

4. The Albany Plan of Union- 1754
Proposed by Benjamin Franklin
Called for improved relations with the Iroquois and a temporary unification of the colonies.
**The idea fails, but it will serve as a model for our government later.

5. Order of War Events
At first, the outnumbered French and Indians were scoring victories.
War was officially declared in 1756 and the tide turned, due to better leadership.
British lay siege to Quebec in 1759

6. Treaty of Paris Signed in 1763, this treaty officially ended the war.
France turned Canada over to Britain and all lands east of the Mississippi(except New Orleans).
The British and Spanish traded Cuba for Florida.

7. Effects of the War Americans lost respect for the British

Desire to expand westward on their own now existed.
