2nd Grade Mrs. Stephens’ Wise Guys Week of August 20, 2018 A Peek at Our Week WEEKLY HOMEWORK Reading: Ask and Answer Questions We will learn how to ask and answer questions such as who, what, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the August writing calendar Write what you ate for a meal- label what food category it came from. Math: Basic Math Facts We will practice fluently adding and subtracting within 10 using mental strategies. Writing: Personal Narratives We will learn how to write a narrative that recounts a well elaborated short sequence of events, includes details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, uses transition words, and provides a sense of closure. Math Practice Addition and Subtraction Math Facts to 10 Go to class webpage, click on “links” and play “that’s a fact” Spelling Choose a spelling activity from the August Speller’s Choice Social Studies: Georgia Regions We will locate and compare major topographical features of Georgia and describe how these features define Georgia’s surface. We will locate and compare Blue Ride, Piedmont, Coastal Plain, Ridge & Valley, and Appalachian Plateau. We will also locate the Savannah, Flint, and Chattahoochee Rivers. Reading Read for 20 minutes Practice asking and answering questions before, during, and after reading S.S./ Science Review the Regions of Georgia sheets your child has been bringing home. Also, complete the color sheet of GA Regions/Study on back Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling/ Reading Rule Language Skill Mark Your Calendar K and CK (short vowel) -ck comes at the end of a word, after a short vowel is heard! Ex: pack, sick, duck -k comes after a consonant letter or vowel pair. Ex: bank, walk, peek, book Collective Nouns We will learn how to identify and use collective (group of) nouns when speaking and writing. Ex: school of fish swarm of bees August 20 – Just Eat It (in house field trip) August 22 – Picture Day (do not wear green) August 24 – Front office volunteer training at 10:00 AM PE Fun Night at 6:00 PM Weekly Words who, what, when
