1 Macromolecule foldable

2 Warm Up Please get a piece of construction paper OR a sheet of computer paper from the front table You will need a pair of scissors for this activity (there may not be enough for everyone so please share) Markers or colored pencils are optional

3 instructions Fold paper horizontally (hamburger style) then open back up Fold outside flaps to the center and then fold in half like a book so that folded edges are in the center fold Cut out the outside flaps of paper exposing the center box.

4 Tab a: protein FRONT SIDE OF TAB INSIDE OF TAB Label the tab PROTEIN
Sketch and color an AMINO ACID INSIDE OF TAB Function: transport substances, speed reactions, provide structural support, make hormones Elements: Carbon, Nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, and sometimes sulfur Structure: chains of amino acids (polypeptide chain) Use: muscle contraction, transporting oxygen in the bloodstream, carry out chemical reactions such as enzymes My examples of a protein….

5 Tab b: carbohydrate FRONT SIDE OF TAB INSIDE OF TAB
Label the tab CARBOHYDRATE Sketch and color a molecule of GLUCOSE INSIDE OF TAB Function: store energy, provide structural support Elements: Carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen Structure: monosaccharide, disaccharide, and polysaccharide Use: energy source, provide structural support in cell walls My examples of a carbohydrate….

6 Tab C: lipid FRONT SIDE OF TAB INSIDE OF TAB Label the tab LIPID
Sketch and label a FATTY ACID INSIDE OF TAB Function: store energy, provide barriers Elements: Carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen Structure: saturated fats (single bonds), and unsaturated fats (double bonds) Use: long term energy store, insulation, protective coatings My examples of a lipid….

7 Tab d: nucleic acid FRONT SIDE OF TAB INSIDE OF TAB
Label the tab NUCLEIC ACID Sketch and label a NUCLEOTIDE INSIDE OF TAB Function: store and communicate genetic information Elements: Carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and phosphorus Structure: DNA or RNA strand Use: store and transmit genetic information My examples of a nucleic acid….
