May 1775, meets in Philadelphia, uncertain for independence Thomas Paine writes “Common Sense” Common sense to want independence from King George III Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson

7 Battle of Bunker Hill Colonists took top of Breed’s Hill
William Howe commanded British to attack uphill British eventually took the hill, but over 1,000 British soldiers were killed or wounded
