1 Subject-Verb Agreement
It’s all about “teamwork!”

2 Here’s the deal…. The subject and verb in a sentence must agree, or work together. A singular subject needs a singular verb. A plural subject needs a plural verb. “It just takes a little practice, that’s all.” Subj Verb

3 Use the following rules for verbs that tell about the present time:
If the subj. is a singular noun or he, she, or it, add –s or –es to most verbs. Ex. The planet grows. Ex. The scientist teaches school. Ex. He works hard.

4 If the subj. is compound, a plural noun, or I, you, we, or they, DO NOT add –s or –es to the verb.
Ex. The planets grow. Ex. The scientist and the assistant teach school. Ex. They work hard.

5 For the verb be, use am and is to agree with singular subjects and are to agree with plural subjects. Ex. I am a scientist. Ex. My father is on the moon. Ex. The planets are visible. Ex. We are on Earth.

6 Collective noun Collective noun- names a group, such as family, team, and class. It’s singular if it refers to a group acting as one: The class is waiting for take-off. It’s plural if it refers to members of the group acting individually: The class are choosing their seats.
