Today’s lesson will focus on: 4 Mark questions 12 mark questions

2 Question Types TYPE OF QUESTION Calculation
Could be short or long calculations. The total marks per calculation will be 4 marks per paper in paper 1 and 2. Open response Requires a few sentences or a very short paragraph. This will be 3 or 4 marks. Extended open response Students are here tested on the ability to assess the ability to develop extended written arguments to draw well-evidenced and informed conclusions about geographical questions and issues. 12 marker. Resource linked question The resource booklet provides a stimulus material for one or more questions in a section. Answers need to refer to data from the resource Evaluation These 20-mark questions come at the end of the optional topics and will combine two parts of the specification

3 Paper 2 You will be answering your assessed on globalisation in paper 2 alongside regenerating places and global development and connections. The paper will include Open response / calculation / resource – linked question It will include 4, 6-8, 12 and 20 mark questions.

4 Open response 3 or 4 markers 5mins Very short paragraph
Knowledge of key terminology and correct and accurate knowledge and understanding is required To get top marks you will be expected to throw in at least one example / statistic

5 Extended Open Response
12 marker 15 mins At least 3 paragraphs Knowledge of key terminology and correct and accurate knowledge and understanding is required To get top marks you will be expected to throw a statistic or concrete example in each paragraph You are expected to conclude Each 12 mark question has its own level descriptors which are the same across Physical and Human Geography

6 P.E.E.L In your extended writing, you are expected to follow the PEEL structure POINT – make a point EXPLAIN – explain the point in your own words to show thorough understanding EXAMPLE – give a contemporary and relevant example LINK – Link back to the question to show you have answered question LET’S PRACTISE: Imagine the question is ‘assess the emergence of a global culture’
