Learning outcomes: Thursday. To understand the important part QWC plays in you controlled assessment. To understand the use and helpfulness of connectives in your written work. After reviewing your Methodology you will include suitable improvements using connectives.

Let’s remind ourselves.

Controlled assessment. Exam 1 = 37.5% of GCSE grade. Exam 2 – 37.5% of GCSE grade. Controlled assessment = 25% of GCSE grade.

Quality of written communication. (QWC)

Levels. There are 3 levels – EVERYONE here is to aim for Level 3. Level 1 = 1 – 4 marks Level 2 = 5 – 8 marks Level 3 = 9 – 12 marks

To reach Level 1, I have: 1.Written a brief description to go with my data presented e.g. graphs with a description of the trend below. 2.Included some reasons to explain what my results show. 3.Used a limited range of geographical terms. (check your glossary) 4.Written my sentences using capital letters and full stops, as well as other punctuation and grammar. 5.Spell checked and proof read my work to make sure it makes sense. (1 – 4 marks)

Level 2 is where I reach when I have completed all of Level 1 and I have; 1.Written a description for all of my results and have manipulated the data to show the trends e.g. including percentages, fractions or ratios. 2.Written a conclusion which starts with a ‘summary of key findings’, which answers the question or hypothesis at the start of the investigation 3.Used geography terms appropriately from the start of my investigation in my final write up. 4.I have written in full sentences and paragraphs which make sense. (5 – 8 marks)

Level 3 is where I reach when I have completed all of Level 2 and I have: 1.Written a detailed description for all of my results, which includes detailed data analysis. 2.Identified links between data sets. 3.Written a valid conclusion based on my ‘summary of key results’, which answers the hypothesis at the start of the investigation. 4.Used a wide range of geography terms appropriately. 5.Written in sentences and paragraphs which are clear and logical. 6.My writing is fluent and makes sense. (9 – 12 marks)
