2 Structure of the Exam: You have four sections to answer: Short Essay Question Cradle to the Grave Free at Last Road to War

3 Timing in the Exam The exam lasts for 1 hour 45 mins. The paper is out of 50 marks in total. Take 25 mins for each section – 8 mins per question. This leaves 30 mins for the short essay.

4 Types of Questions LO1 Question Starts with words like ‘Describe, What, In What Ways’ Your answer must be completely from recall LO2 Question Starts with words like ‘ Explain or Why’. You will have a source to help you. You must include relevant recall.

5 Types of Questions LO3 Question This question will ask you to evaluate a source. It could be a ‘How useful’ question. Or you could be asked to compare two sources.

6 Short Essay Question This question is worth 8 marks. Your answer must have: Introduction Give background information, outline the question and main factors. Main Section Aim for five main points – write a paragraph on each. Conclusion Sum up the main points and answer the question. Structure Written in clear paragraphs

7 Answering Questions Always make sure that your answer echoes the question. For example: Q.Why was the Beveridge Report considered important? A.The Beveridge Report was considered important because….

8 Comparison Question Look for what the sources agree or disagree on. When making a comparison say what the sources agree or disagree on e.g. The sources agree about ……….. Then quote from each source to back up your comparison e.g. Source A says this ……and Source B agrees by saying this ….

10 Targets for the Final Exam Practice writing 8 mark essays. Practice writing introductions/conclusions. Use the evidence from a source in my own words Include more detail in my answers. Take a new sentence for each detailed point. Practice evaluating sources more effectively. Practice timed answers. Complete past paper practice Complete regular revision of the topics. Revise topics that I don’t understand e.g ………….. Complete the final draft of my extended response to the highest standard possible.
