5 Left Side – Right Side Orientation
Left side items are the students… REFLECTIONS …output ODD PAGES Right side items are things from the teacher and text to be learned… TESTABLE ITEMS …input EVEN PAGES

6 Right Side Right is for Teacher Notes! The right side has “testable” information. The right side has a toolbox with vocabulary, formulas. The right side has a summary for the day.

Notes Handouts Graphic organizers Example problems worked out with written “running” commentary

8 Left Side The left is for “Your Way” of understanding the material. The left side belongs to YOU! The left side is where you record your PROCESSING of the teacher-provided notes, handouts, etc. (i.e. of the right side items).

Songs, Poems, Raps Graphic organizers Your re-writing of notes into your own language and/or with illustrations Math Graffiti/ Math Cartoons Colorful and varied representations Your space to be creative and make the math your own!!

18 Maintaining the Interactive Notebook
No ripped out pages or torn corners No doodling that doesn’t relate to notes Notebook should only be used in Math (No other classes!!) Date and number each page

19 Components of your Interactive Notebook
Cover – create colorful cover that has to do with math concepts Author’s Page – include a photograph and personal information such as age, favorite foods and music and sports, family members and friends

20 More components… Table of Contents – create running table that includes skills and scores (math bucks) Folder or section of your binder that will be for hand outs and “works in progress”. Once an assignment is completed, then it can be placed in the appropriate place in the notebook.
